Have you ever been walking down the street and noticed a group of people gathered together and watching something? Did you then go over and see what it was that these people were looking at? My guess is you did. And if you did, you did so because of a little thing called social proof. Social proof is a psychological phenomenon where one group of people convinces another group of people to do something either intentionally or unintentionally, simply by doing it. Now does that sound a bit confusing, because it does to me? So let me make it a little clearer.
Social proof is often a trick used by marketers and salespeople. They use famous people in their television ads to convince you to buy their products, or they tell you that “millions of others have used our product with great success” on their website advertisements. These two things are done to convince you that their product is great. If it weren’t great, then why would a famous and probably well-respected celebrity be endorsing it. Or, why would “millions” of other people have used it. This social proof is used all the time by companies trying to sell their product. Why is it used so much? Because it works, and people end up buying their products.
Human beings love getting the best of everything available. We love the tastiest food, the nicest clothes, the fastest cars, and the biggest houses. It is in our nature to seek the highest level of everything we can afford. So we typically like to do a lot of research into the product we are thinking about getting before we get it. And we do this by looking to others who have already gotten this product i.e. social proof. Social proof tells us how great something is from the experience it has given others who have used it. Look no further than the Amazon Customer Reviews to see how important previous reviews on a product are. If a product has one or two stars instead of five, most people don’t even think twice about actually purchasing it. That’s how much we put the faith of others into what we consider buying. We will actually listen to complete strangers who we have never seen or met, and we will let them decide what we will do.
So, how does social proof apply to meeting women and boosting your game? Well, you can actually use social proof when meeting women by making yourself appear to be a very attractive guy. If women see you, or more importantly if they see other people around you having a good time with you, then they will perceive you as attractive. If you are at the bar and you are making the bartender laugh, and you are having a great time, the women around you are going to notice this. You joking around and having fun with other people gives you tremendous social proof. She is going to basically think of you as a “product”, and those people who you have around you laughing at your jokes are the great customer reviews that you are getting.
If you know a ton of people, or even if you just met people at the bar earlier that night, but you are laughing and having a good time with them, this too will give you a ton of social proof. Women take notice in guys who are socially involved with other people. The other people give them that coveted social proof they need to stick out. The other people are basically telling the women around you that you are a great guy, and that she would be wise to “purchase” you, or in this case, get to know you.
The next time you’re at the bar or nightclub, start talking to everyone around you. If you are not with a group of friends, make small talk with as many people as you can, and try to make connections with some of them. Get their names and get to know them a bit. The more involved you are socially, the more other women will notice this. If everyone around you is talking to you, the attractive woman across the bar is going to wonder why, and be very interested. She is going to want to talk to you, too. She may even go up to you and start a conversation with you before you get a chance to go over to her.
